Thought I'd kick off a jam-packed academic year of recording by getting a good session in the Futureworks Foley studio this week, and boy was I able to grab some fantastic stuff! I spent most of my session getting footsteps and fabric sounds for Simran's Whitham's Sensory project, but I was also able to spend a good chunk of time fiddling about with the gorgeous broken typewriter pictured above. It should prove very useful for my Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty sound design project.
I used a Neumann U87 and a CAD GXLBP1200BP pencil mic going into a ZOOM H5 recorder for this session. I recorded a variety of objects and surfaces, including an empty water cooler bottle, a broken micro scooter, clothing rustles, footsteps and of course, the wonderful typewriter and its myriad clicks and clacks.
Next step is to go through all the recordings and dig out all the good bits; a tedious, yet essential part of the recording process. Better get started!
